Downtown Enhancement Plan
Downtown Enhancement Plan
Why is the Town undertaking the Downtown Enhancement Plan?
Ingersoll’s downtown core has long been the heart of the community, offering a blend of heritage, culture, and opportunity. As the town continues to grow and evolve, there is a clear need to ensure that the downtown remains a vibrant, inclusive, and economically resilient hub.
This project is designed to revitalize the downtown area, enhance its business environment, and create a dynamic space for residents and visitors alike.
The Town of Ingersoll has identified downtown revitalization as a strategic priority in its Corporate Strategic Plan. The goal is to support existing businesses, attract new investments, and increase visitor spending—all of which are essential to the long-term growth of the community.
Purpose of the Downtown Enhancement Plan
The Downtown Enhancement Plan aims to:
- Strengthen Ingersoll’s downtown core by fostering a thriving commercial area
- Support the retention and growth of local businesses while attracting new investments
- Diversify the local economy and provide opportunities for long-term growth
- Create a vibrant, inclusive community space for residents and visitors to enjoy
The plan will provide actionable recommendations for revitalization over the short, medium, and long term, with a clear framework to guide decisions on future development.
Project Background
In April 2022, the Town of Ingersoll approved its Corporate Strategic Plan, which highlighted downtown revitalization as a key priority for economic development. This initiative aligns with the Town’s commitment to enhancing its business environment and creating a welcoming space for the community.
In October 2024, the Town issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to select a consulting partner to develop the Downtown Enhancement Plan. After a thorough review process, Urban Insights, in partnership with Durrell Communications, was chosen to lead the development of this important project.
Engagement & Consultation Process
The consultation process will offer numerous opportunities for residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to contribute their vision and ideas for downtown Ingersoll. We will be actively engaging with local residents, business owners, and community groups to gather input on what matters most for the future of downtown. Your feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the plan’s priorities and objectives. We also encourage everyone to participate in an Open House planned for January 2025, where you will have the chance to:
- Learn more about the Downtown Enhancement Plan.
- Share your thoughts on the revitalization process.
- Engage with the project team and ask questions.
After gathering community feedback, the final Downtown Enhancement Plan will be presented to Town Council in April 2025, with your contributions playing a key role in guiding the decisions for our downtown’s future.
