What goes where? Widget – Updates April 2020
This widget has been updated to reflect the minor changes to the blue box program. Starting May 4, our collection contractor will no longer accept plastic bags and film or Styrofoam food and beverage containers in the curbside recycling program. These items are problematic materials to recycle that can damage equipment and easily contaminate other recyclables. Plastic film includes items like shopping bags, saran wrap and Ziploc bags. Styrofoam food and beverage containers include Styrofoam takeout containers, plates, bowls and cups. We are encouraging residents to limit use of these items as much as possible and to dispose of them in the garbage when needed.

Recycling is a great way to keep materials like plastics out of our landfill. Rinsing is important: if recyclable materials are not clean, they will contaminate other recyclables causing them to end up in the landfill. Here are a few tips to ensure you are recycling the right way:
- All items should be loose and clean in your bins.
- Oxford County is now under single stream recycling. This means you no longer need to separate paper products from containers. All recyclable materials can be placed in the same recycling bin to be placed at the road. For questions about specific materials, type the material into the “What goes where?” tool at Wasteline.ca.
- Secure your items from blowing out of your blue boxes by stacking your bins, or placing heavier material on top. Residents are responsible for picking up blown out debris from their recycling bins.
- Make sure your bin says “Recycling” on the side of it. Use a standard blue box to ensure collectors can identify it as recycling. Click here for info on purchasing a blue box from Oxford County.
