Town of Ingersoll Partners with CN to Improve Thames St Railroad Crossing
Ingersoll, ON November 3, 2023 - In a recent report to Council, the Town of Ingersoll is working closely with CN to improve the tracks at the crossing of Thames Street.
The long-standing problem of deteriorating and frequently repaired railroad tracks has been successfully addressed by the Town and CN. Challenges relating to the dual-track curvature and speed of travel, partnered with the proximity of the Thames Street bridge structures, have created issues with track longevity.
Where and When:
CN has stated its intention to service the crossing through annual maintenance and monitoring to ensure proper planning for any future improvements.
The Town and CN are jointly committed to ensuring their approach and budgets are aligned. If more extensive rehabilitation needs to be undertaken to improve the tracks, CN and Ingersoll will take to planning several months or even years ahead of construction.
Mayor Petrie stated, “I want to thank the residents of Ingersoll for their endless patience in dealing with the current state of the crossing. I also want to thank Council and Staff for their advocacy, and I'm pleased CN has agreed to invest in a better solution than in the past. It's also positive they're committing to a more collaborative process with the Town regarding the monitoring and maintaining the crossings within the Town. I'm hopeful this will lead to better outcomes in the future.”
